Say Hey!

Borrowing an idea from fellow blogger, Kelly, over at Educational Discourse, here is a place for visitors to leave me a message which may not be directly connected to a post.

Thank you for visiting!

  1. I love your site!

I’m paying a visit to say, “hello” and hope you have time next week to visit my Black History hall of Fame Week where I will profile some of my favorite Black Americans.

I also design student tours and give advice on places to visit and ways to enhance a class trip.

I look forward to seeing you!

  5. About my “Glory” poem - I’ve been thinking about gymnastics a lot, as NCAA championships are coming up for us, and I want nothing more than for Stanford to win the team title. Yet, at the same time, I’d feel that I could not accept as much of the glory for the win, because I didn’t compete with my injured knee.

Yet, I still think that glory is one of the greatest things a man (person) can achieve in his (her) life time.

Also, I just watched the movie about Sparta defending itself against from a Persian invasion “300″. Great movie. =)

  9. I’m a soon to be Spanish teacher as well. I’m so excited to have found your blog! I’m actually just beginning my masters but am on the fast-track to finish in one year and hopefully be a “real” teacher by 2008 (fall). My story is actually a lot like your in how I became a Spanish student, then major and now here I am. My blogs private due to my grad school, but I’d love to invite you to read.

  12. I didn’t want to put this on Pat’s blog and derail the flow of the article, but I recently read chapter six of “I know why the caged bird sings.”

I’ve been in some pretty rowdy churches, so I had no trouble imagining the scene.

  13. Hi, I just skimmed a bit of this blog (following a comment from Bright Minds), and I find your particular mix of personal, political, and pedagogical quite appealing.

Two questions, one blog-related, one not: 1) Why is your film list so weighted towards newish films? There was nothing you loved from when you were a kid, or from old stuff on tv?

And 2) (looking for a technical answer to this one) - I am a math teacher, not language, but we are about the same age and I had some good language instruction back mid-70s - early 80’s. Just yesterday I was looking at two lessons on introducing the subjunctive in Spanish, and both relied heavily on the structural similarity with the imperative. Now, here’s my question - by introducing the structural similarity with the subjunctive right up front, will the lessons divert students from the meaning part, which is tough, since we don’t have a productive subjunctive in standard English? And second part: is this lesson organization pretty standard - or is it a NY thing?

  14. I came across your blog after reading your June 20th comments on Matt’s blog. I landed their after doing a search for TOC edtech bloggers. After making my way across your tabs at the top of the page, I decided to stop here and leave a comment. Glad to meet you. I will come back and look around. Thanks for sharing your insights with us.

  16. Hey missprofe!
Sounds like you’re doing your best not to think about school for a while! Well, if you change your mind, check out my recent blog post and responses on “What’s the Matter with Colleges” I’ve been quite surprised with the amount of feedback! http://blog.stanford.edu/unofficial/2007/07/whats_the_matter_with_colleges.html

    Take care,

  18. Hugs, I ‘m seriously out of it of late…..you know I’ll be reading as soon as my positive returns or I get some rest after summer school and my house cleaning is done. I hope you are doing fine, healthy, resting, family good.
I started an aquarium project and decided to clean every square inch of my existence. So far the worst dirt is that which lunks along from habituated poor things like negative attitudes and dinosaur outlooks.
on the plus side summer school has one more day and I love the kids.
Very cool, came in with no English-a sink or swim thing but i had enough tricks to see some really good things happen. I get down, but it was good.

Your blog looks fantastic. You know I need to redesign and I get lots of ideas here. I’m getting to that in August.

just a plug for the Educator’s Roundtable…cool UTube up there.Funny.

Lots of love and I’ll be reading. If I everfigure out how to do the memes and Thursday things I will..need the baby sized version….gotta go write up all the lesson plans i used this summer, have to turn in tomorrow and I didn’t write them down…ha…

  22. Hey Missprofe,

I stepped in here to ask you what’s in “about” on your masthead. I can’t activate it cuz the title is on top of it. Is that my system’s problema? Just wondering…

  26. Hi Miss Profe!
I’ve launched another blog and podcast in Spanish but this one is for the kids. It’s called Cody’s Cuentos and it features audio of classic fairy tales and regional folk tales in Spanish. Each story is read by a native Spanish speaker.

    The web address is: http://www.codyscuentos.com

Please drop by when you have a chance and take a look.

Gracias y saludos desde Madrid. :)

  27. Just wanted to say hello and thanks for your blog. I got here from your post on Kelly’s blog re twitter. I also teach at an independent school in the NE and am always looking for folks who are teaching at a school similar to mine. I’ve been on break these last 2 weeks and have been working hard to find connections- twitter, blogs, etc that I can learn from.

Loved your posts about being a new teacher at an independent school- felt very familiar… hope we’re doing a slightly better job now than we did when I first started, but somehow, don’t think it’s changed much- sink or swim on your own.
