Miss Profe’s Film Faves: Good Guys, Bad Guys, Chills and Thrills
1. Taxi Driver. Robert DeNiro at his best. Some of the best lines spoken that have made their way into the lexicon. My fave: “You talkin’ to me?”
2. The Birds. Ok. Not only am I a girl-geek, but I am also a Hitchcock fan. Tippi Hedren is fantastic in this film. And the birds are so eery! They freaked me out.
3. The French Connection. This film gets my vote for the best car chase scene ever. No other film comes quite close. Roy Schider and Gene Hackman made a great duo.
4. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. One of the best westerns ever made. Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Kleef give outstanding performances. There’s more than one way to be a bad guy.
5. Seven Samurai. Kurosowa laid the foundation for so many films with this ground-breaking classic. Perhaps his best film.
6. Psycho. Another Hitchcock classic. The shower scene is *still* my favorite, and I have seen this film several times.
7, 8, 9. The Godfather Trilogy. The first two were simply the best two films of all times. DeNiro, Pacino,Duval and Brando made these films what they are. Francis Ford Coppola could have left Godfather III alone. It did not add much, in my opinion, except give his daughter, Sophia, a job.
10. Raging Bull. DeNiro won an Oscar for Best Actor. And it was well-deserved.
11. Goodfellas. Some of the best lines in film history. I wonder what Henry Hill is up to these days?
12. The Deer Hunter. Very chilling and very moving. Touched my every emotion.

Oh I loooove “The Birds” and “Psycho”. Those birds freaked me out. And what a quaint little town. Almost seems cool but even I’m not that much of a small town homebody.

Aha, a true Bobby D fan, hm? He’s in more than half of this list — and I agree with all.
I’m pleased that you know “The Seven Samurai”; not many people I know do. While we’re on Kurosawa, do you also like “Rashomon”? (And did you know that there’s a remake of “The Seven Samurai” scheduled for 2008, with Kurosawa’s son as producer?)
